This year for Mother’s Day I decided to make my mom a DIY custom farmhouse sign from a piece of 1/4 inch plywood with a frame made from poplar and stained with some dark Danish Oil. Lots of farmhouse signs made online simply nail the frame directly to the plywood. Doing it this way causes the edge of the plywood to be visible when viewing the sign from the side. Typically they will paint or stain the edge of the plywood the same as the frame to help it blend in, but to give the sign a cleaner look I used a straight bit in the router table to cut a 1/4 inch slot for the plywood to slide into and then buttoned it up with glue and brad nails. This was a fairly easy and fun project to build and only took a few late nights in the shop to get it accomplished.
